February 15, 2025

On February 15, 2025 Hector Paul López received his final salute at the Veterans Hospital in Detroit. Hector lived an adventurer’s life beginning in his youth traveling the rails across America and throughout Mexico. He packed many lives into the life he was given including migrant worker, boxer, cabbie, carpenter, maintenance man, and in his elder years acquired a masters degree in social work. He first applied his degree by helping to start a parolee program and went on to counsel patients and families coping with health issues at Henry Ford Hospital.  Hector’s most dedicated role was that of father to his four children Palo (deceased), April, Therese, and Andrea (Henry Flynn) López. He is also the very proud grandfather of four and great grandfather of six. Hector continued to love, admire, and respect his wife Rita, following their divorce which he expressed by continuing to keep her photo and mementos of her on his bedside table during his last years.
