Brother of Bernard (Lynette) Masztakowski and Christine (Edward) Abratowski. Uncle of Julie, Johnathan, Edward, Laura (Tom), Kayla, Tyler and his Godson Jason (Amy) Hansen. Great uncle of Leo, Julia, Alana.
After Fred’s service in the United States Army where he served in Vietnam was telecommunications technician and manager at TTI. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus #2723, officer in VFW #4162, and was the heart and soul of the PLAV Post #6 in Hamtramck. He earned Veteran of the Year Award from the VFW in 2014 and Knight of the Year in 2010 from the Knights of Columbus. He was known throughout the city as “Uncle Freddie” and will be dearly missed.

I smile whenever I hear Fred’s laugh no matter the conversation.
I only got to know Fred through TTI and Mark M. but I am very glad I knew him for a short time.
I worked with Fred at the Bank of Commerce. I was 16 at the time. I went on to work at Michigan Bell Telephone MBT. We crossed path again. He worked for TTI for many years. A Telcom Company as manager. I was Project Manager & Field Supervisor at MBT. We had many adventures together on & off the job. Great Man!!! God Bless!!!
I was fortunate enough to have worked directly with Fred just prior to his retirement as he trained me for the position I now hold. I am grateful to him for his patience, understanding, and willingness to share his knowledge. Thanks Fred, God’s peace.

My family will always remember “Santa” at Christmas.

Without a doubt, one unique individual. A very smart man and could charm the pants off of anyone. A lifelong friend and confidant. Will miss our conversation and sarcastic banter. Please give all our family and friends in Heaven our best regards. Rest in Peace “Short Round”. God speed. Love you Man!
Have known Fred since we went to H.S. together at Orchard Lake in the fifties. A good man with a big heart. Many interesting conversations at the POST sipping holy water. ALL meetings and special occasions were accompanied with hot dogs and all the accoutrements thanks to him. He loved Hamtramck and everything Polish. God bless you Fred…………..

Unc.Fred….I know we are all going sometime or another..but never the less..it hurts….im still speechless..who is going to chat with me everyday about all the bs…who is going to yell at me..who am i going to make that cup of tea for..NO ONE WILL EVER REPLACE UNCLE FRED…you were my work partner for years & friend… 🙁 🙁

My Uncle Fred truly loved our
small Masztakowski & Abratowski families, veterans, Orchard Lake St. Marys, Jason, Amy and all the kids who needed that laughing, upbeat nature type man in their lives. So lucky my wife Jacque and I recently took him to lunch in July at Polonia then met Kathie at the Post for Christian Brothers. Many family members moved away from MI but we never forget our tremendous upbringing and good times with Uncle Fred.
