Wieslawa “Vicky” Czerkes-Skoczylas (age 65)
May 20, 2024

Dear wife and partner in good of Mark Olko and loving mother of Eva Skoczylas, Eric (Merima) Czerkes, Adam (Robyn) Czerkes, and Aven Olko.  Grandmother of Alina, Jannah, Jayda, Emma, and Mia.  Vicky is also survived by her sister Kazimiera and niece Kadie.

She was preceded in death by her mother Weronika Skoczylas, father Jakub Skoczylas, and late husband Joseph Czerkes.

Vicky immigrated from Poland as a teenager, settling in Hamtramck, where she would live out her life and establish a family. In Hamtramck, Vicky became a staple in the community by way of her long career with Hamtramck Public Schools where she worked as a bus driver and within custodial services. Along with other job duties, she made sure that the children were on track, well taken care of, and was a mother to all.

Not only was Vicky a staple in her community, she was a public servant within it. She dedicated time in her life to the Hamtramck Friendship House and to the Hamtramck Moose Lodge. You could often find her at the Moose sharing a smile, sharing a laugh, and doing her best to keep this community gathering space going while filling people’s bellies. She loved her Moose connections, finding joy with other branches like Mount Clemens, and in attending the annual conference in Sault Ste. Marie.

Mama Vicky loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, whether it be here in the city or up north with her husband Mark. She loved a cold Coors Light on a hot, never cold, day – only drinking it when the mountains were blue.  She also loved a good garage or yard sale, leaving with gifts for all. She was thoughtful and would often meet someone by saying, ‘I have something for you!’.  She enjoyed riding the Harley with Mark throughout the years, hitting the open road and feeling the wind in her hair. She also loved tending to her flower garden in a yard that didn’t include grass; she hated grass. Throughout the years there are too many pets to name, however, Vicky was an animal lover. Her dogs were her #1 pride and joy, whether from rescuing, adopting, or breeding she LOVED and nurtured them all!

She was loved and will be missed by many who call her mom, friend, or Ms. Vicky.

In lieu of flowers please make donations in Vicky’s name to one of the Moose Charities.
