Henry Matylonek (age 71)

It’s with regret to announce the passing of Henry Matylonek. He passed away in hospice at the Dingell VA Medical Center in downtown Detroit from cancer on May 22, 2023.  The family remembers him as someone who consistently tried to make life work for him, while navigating the impact and times of the Vietnam War era as a veteran of the US Army.  Henry was a survivor of many challenges that affected his personal health and well-being and those around him. Ultimately, he found friendship at the Michigan Veterans Center and Christian Science Reading Room; he found solace daily at Old Mary’s Catholic Church in downtown Detroit, and in the love of his loyal canine companion, Corporal – also gone. May God give him peace and rest. Henry is survived by his siblings and his son’s family.
