I’m so sorry for your loss the Vollmer family . Your Mom was a wonderful lady. Our thoughts and prayers our with all of you .
Our hearts are broken here at Detroit Friendship House, where Julie spent the last 20 years of her life. She was loved by so many people! Her volunteer crew, her staff members, the Board of Directors, her clients, even the children in the neighborhood who stopped by for cookies from “Miss Julie.” She has left a void and will be greatly missed, however her spirit will live on at Friendship House!
We are so sad to hear about dear Julie. I’ve loved seeing her every time I drop off a donation. She was the best thing about a visit to FH. We loved her humor and her gigantic heart. She lived for her clients, and I just hope she knew what a difference she made in their lives. She’ll never be forgotten. RIP, Julie. Look for my Mom, you two will love each other. We will miss you.
I’ve been employed at Detroit Friendship House since November of last year, so I am fairly new here. Although it’s been less than a year for me here, I’ve gotten to know Julie quite a lot within these months. To me, she was a motherly figure I never knew I could find at work. Always ensuring we had something to snack on and eat for lunch. Always in a protective mood when it came to us. Furthermore, the differences we shared in race, ethnicity, and religious beliefs did not matter to Julie. To her, I was almost like her child. That’s how it felt for me. I felt loved and protected by Julie which are the memories I forever will cherish. I still remember one of the very few last words Julie had spoken to me after her return from the hospital for a bit. “Fahmida, did you miss me?”, I missed her then and now I’ll have to continue missing her presence in Friendship House. Six months only but I’ve never felt this type of love from a co-worker that was so genuine and motherly but that was only possible because it was Julie Vollmer, a woman who knew how to give love to those around her.
Sending my deepest condolences to the Vollmer family. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
Julie was more than a co-worker she was mama bear. She truly took care of everyone around her. Always made sure I had water to stay hydrated and something to snack on. She gave the best bear hugs, I can’t believe our last hug was truly our last goodbye. My heart is broken, She will be missed greatly. I hope the kindness and compassion she’s shown this community for 20 years will continue to inspire us. My sincerest condolences to the Vollmer family.
