Helen Oleksiak (age 96)
May 1, 2022
Our hearts are heavy as we lay to rest long time Hamtramck resident, Helen Oleksiak. Helen was born at Harper Hospital on January 26, 1926. She moved to Hamtramck in 1933 and lived the rest of her live there.
Helen was a devoted wife to her late husband, George, who was a constable for the city of Hamtramck. She was also a devoted and loving mother to her late daughter Pauline. They were inseparable.
Helen was a devout catholic and parishioner at Saint Florian’s Church. If you ever attended one of the Strawberry Festival chances are you’ve probably tasted one of Helen’s yummy Golabki. She also loved dining at the infamous Hamtramck Coney Island where she received many hugs and smiles from the owners and other patrons who loved and adored her.
Helen was a very strong, kind, spiritual and loving woman. She left an imprint on the hearts of those who knew her. She will be missed dearly by her loved ones and her extended family.

My dear Aunt Helen always remembered me at Christmas time. I moved to Florida 44 years ago. She hand wrote me a letter every Christmas telling me about what happened in her life each year. This past Christmas was the first time I didn’t receive a card. She came to our family events with Uncle George and cousin Pauline. They were at my wedding. She always bragged about her brothers, George, Henry, Joe, and my dad Frank. Miss and remember all the times we shared together. Love, Shirley and Dennis Hall
The angels have taken the final member of my late father in laws family. Henry was Helen’s brother and father of my late husband Tom.
He always had me go find a musical card for her on her birthday and Christmas..
He wanted it to be special.
Though they didn’t get to see each other ,
they shared many phone calls.
Now they share a seat at the Lord’s table.
Prayers an Peace Aunt Helen.
Rejoice in your new life !
Aunt Helen was a vey religious individual along with her daughter Pauline, and I
know they made it to Heaven. Many they rest in peace.
