Michael Biernat (age 75)
November 5, 2021
Michael Gregory Biernat passed away Friday, November 5th, 2021 (age 75). He was known for his gentle nature, dapper style, and inquisitive spirit. He was a lifelong learner, inspiring many by graduating from Wayne State University at the age of 71, with a degree in Political Science. He was a devoted student of Italian, Karate, and Constitutional Law. No matter what topic he was learning, he forged deep friendships with those who studied alongside him. As a Craftsman, he spent many years in Historic Home Renovation on the east-side of Detroit. He was famous for being a tinkerer, for his love of the process over speed, and for the joy he took in understanding exactly how things worked. He believed that everyone should have two careers: one for the mind and one for the hands. His own life was a beautiful expression of that philosophy. He was often found in his driveway singing while working, making jokes with those who dropped by, or working on a project for a person he loved. He will forever remain in the hearts of his friends and family.
He is survived by Marcia Jane Biernat, his wife of 53 years, the true love of his life, three sons Scott, Jay, and Eric; two daughters Amie and Brooke; his brothers Jim and Terry Biernat; sister Beverly Getz, as well as eleven grandchildren. Michael will be joining his brothers Roger, Gary, and Greg who passed before him.

Your father sounds like a wonderful and special man. We are so sorry for your loss. May the peace and love of God be with you and your family.
Thank you for your kind words.
We all are lessened by his leaving , but we have been increased by his life !! Good bye Mike !! Miss You !!
So sorry to hear of Mikes passing. Prayers being sent to entire family.
Uncle Michael’s care and compassion will truly be missed. Especially in my childhood, Uncle Michael, along with my other uncles gave us the care and compassion needed. I will credit Uncle Michael for my love of the music of the 60’s.
Dear Cousin Michael — always affable, pleasant, and smiling every time we met. Sadly, the reality of the covid threat will keep us apart on the day of your visitation service. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. May you rest in eternal peace in the arms of our Dear Lord, Michael. .
It’s hard to understand why people are taken from us, but find comfort in knowing you were a special part of such a well-lived life. My heart aches for you and I’m so sorry for your loss.
I would like to share this prayer for my dear cousin Michael:
May the choirs of angels come to greet you, May they speed you to paradise.
May the Lord enfold you in His mercy.
May you find eternal life.
The Lord is my light ad my help; It is He who protects me from harm.
The Lord is the strength of y days; Before who should I tremble with fear?
There is one thing I ask of the Lord;
That He grant me my heartfelt desire,
To dwell in the courts of our God
Every day of my life in His presence.
May their Soul and all the souls of the faithful departed rest in peace. Amen.
I followed this prayer with an Our Father, Hail Mary and Glory Be for our beloved dead.
I am sorry I could not be there today in person but please know that all of your family is in my thoughts and prayers.
With love, Cousin Patricia
Uncle Mike always seemed to have a smile and took time to show that he was interested in you as an individual. It was easy to see that he loved his wife and family very much and was proud of his children and grandchildren. The latest thing that I learned from him was that it is never too late to accomplish a goal. I am sad that he has passed but glad of the life that he lived. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.
What a beautiful service and fitting tribute to such a lovely man! Mike and I always looked forward to speaking with Uncle Mike at family events. His passion for lifelong learning was truly an inspiration – it’s rare to meet someone with such a delightfully curious mind. He will be missed. We send our deepest sympathies to the entire family.
Just a few months ago my boyfriend and I moved into the house next door to Mike and Jannie. From the moment we moved in Mike felt like a lifelong friend. We will miss seeing him out front working on one of his many projects or stopping to chat in the driveway. He was a wonderful neighbor, as good as they come. We are so grateful to have known him even for a short time. Our thoughts are with your family.
