Jerrold V. Marsh (age 79)

Jerrold V. Marsh, 79, of Grosse Pointe Woods, passed away at his home on March 25, 20, 2021.  Born in Oshkosh, WI.    Jerry was predeceased by his parents LaVerne Eugene Marsh and Helen Margaret Marsh, and his brothers, Daniel and David, his sister, Kathleen Marie, in infancy, and his niece Kathleen Krol.  He is survived by nephews Steven Marsh and Michael Marsh and his niece Alexa Michael.  He is also survived by a great-nephew, Bodhi Krol, and his great-niece, Ruby Ann Krol.

Well known as a former referee of the 36th District Court, Traffic and Ordinance Division in the old Wayne County Building on Randolph Street, Jerry was aware that many people had difficult life situations and attempted to give justice a human touch.  Polite, fair, and fast, Jerry required only about two minutes to adjudicate most of his cases.  He had the reputation as the fastest referee in town and was known to have reviewed almost 200 traffic tickets in a day.

Jerry was a practicing attorney for over 50 years.  He graduated from the University of Detroit in 1963 with a degree in philosophy before entering the University of Detroit School of Law.  He was admitted to the State Bar of Michigan in 1968.  He was Assistant Corporation Council for the City of Detroit in the 1970’s.

Jerry was active in the John W. Smith Old Timers, Half Century Club, Polish American Legal Society, International Order of the Alhambra, Galicia Caravan, Third Order of St. Francis, and numerous other charitable organizations.

He will be deeply missed by all those who were touched by his kindness and generosity.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, September 16, 2021 at 10:00am at Saint Bonaventure Chapel of the Solanus Casey Center, 1780 Mount Elliott Street, Detroit, MI 48207.
