Philip Jacob Tomaszewski (age 71)
\nJune 20, 2021<\/h2>\n

Philip J Tomaszewski Sr (71), passed away Sunday, June 20, 2021, Father\u2019s Day, at Ascension Macomb-Oakland Hospital. He was born to John and Alexandra Tomaszewski at Detroit Providence Hospital on July 31, 1949. He is survived by his wife, the love of his life, Cathy (nee Srednicki); his children who he adored, Jaclyn (David) Huffman, Adam, and Philip Jr; his siblings, Lucy (Don) Gaskell, Suzanne Bright, John, and Tom (Jo); his Godmother and dear aunt, Lucy Kazmer; his mother-in-law, Alma Srednicki; brother-in-law Dennis (Janet) Srednicki and sister-in-law Ann (Joe) Peczynski; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins who loved him dearly. He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Alice; his brother-in-law, Gary Bright; his father-in-law, Theodore Srednicki; nephew Ken Gaskell and niece Amy Brede.<\/p>\n

Phil graduated from St. Ladislaus High School in 1967. In the early 1970s, he joined the Michigan Army National Guard as a cook, feeding the entire Camp Grayling! He spent most of his years as a 28-year veteran of the Hamtramck Police Department where he retired as Traffic Lieutenant in April 2001. Upon his retirement, Phil went right back to it and became part-time Magistrate for the Wayne County 31st<\/sup> District Court in Hamtramck, as well as working at Rackham Golf Course in Huntington Woods which provided him many free rounds of golf over the years!<\/p>\n

Always the avid outdoors man, Phil enjoyed camping with his family, hunting trips up north, and hours spent fishing on the lakes and rivers of Michigan, some trips more successful than others! It would be amiss not to mention his profound love for golf and the many trips across Michigan and other states such as Alabama, Florida and Arizona, to name a few, in search of the elusive hole-in-one. He was able to achieve that milestone at, of all places, his home course, Rackham on the 5th<\/sup> hole! He could also be counted on to provide a laugh to everyone he met, with his arsenal of dad jokes and songs. In addition to family, work and hobbies, Phil was very active in his community. He was a member of the Hamtramck Rotary Club, Knights of Columbus, Moose Lodge and a long-time usher for his parish of Our Lady Queen of Apostles. He was always very involved in his children\u2019s activities including attending all sporting events, plays, and dance recitals where he could always be found with a camera or camcorder in his hands. He also took his role a step further and coached Q of A JV basketball and was team manager for Phil Jr\u2019s Grosse Pointe hockey team.<\/p>\n
