Judy Black (age 73) February 17, 2026

Judith “Judy” Black passed away on February 17, 2026. She was predeceased by her siblings, “Big Joe” Black, Jane Black, and “Little Joe” Black. Judy is survived by her son Mathew Whitney, as well as many other siblings, nieces, nephews, and extended family. She is also survived by longtime friend, Christine LaRouche. Judy attended St. Mary’s of Reford until 11th grade, graduating from Cooley High School in 1970.

She went to nursing school at Alpena Community College and spent time working as a nurse. Judy was a strong swimmer in high schools, and her love of nature stayed with her throughout her life. Her nieces and nephews recall fond memories of summers spent with Judy at the community pool, where she shared her enthusiasm for swimming and the outdoors. Known for living life on her own terms, Judy had a sharp sense of humor and a strong will that made her presence felt wherever she went. Judy’s friends and family remember her for the moments shared and the stories that came with knowing her.

A private memorial will be held by family.
