Carolyn Ann Kaczmarek (age 81)
November 27, 2025
Carolyn Ann Kaczmarek, longtime resident of Grosse Pointe Woods, passed away Thursday November 27th, 2025 after a long illness. She is survived by her sister Kate Schuch, her three sons Paul, Jason, and Dan Fontella, her granddaughters Danielle Huffman and Amelia Fontella, and 2 great-grandsons Preston Huffman and Barron Huffman. She was preceded in death by her parents Chester and Irene, her brother Chet, and friend Gene Perye.
Carolyn loved family and the holidays, enjoyed travelling, and occasional trips to the casinos. After she retired as a contract specialist with US Army TACOM she enjoyed playing Bridge, and spending time in her back yard gardening. There were frequent bus trips around the country with her friend Gene, and a Mediterranean cruise with her sister Kate. She rescued several greyhounds from the tracks, giving them loving homes in their retirement.
Carolyn was happiest surrounded by family. There were frequent family dinners, as well as game days playing cards and board games with her sons and sister. She was a happy outgoing person, always smiling and willing to chat with anyone about almost anything. She was generous and giving, supportive of her sons as they made their way through the world.
In Lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation or the Capuchin Soup Kitchen in Carolyn’s name.

Always looked up to my older cousin with admiration for her grace & bravery during difficult times. Always a smile & great conversation. Her laugh was contagious. She embraced family & her Polish roots. Truely a special lady! Xo
I remember your family and your mom from when we lived on Chatsworth. We always had a lot of fun. I also remember the boys riding down the front steps of their house on their big wheels. That was such a great time. May your mom rest in God’s loving arms.
I remember Carolyn from high school and TACOM.
I recall scrolling the TACOM directory and came across her name. I called her to confirm it was the same Carolyn from St Lads High School. From that time on we talked high school memories often. She graduated with my brother and I with her sister, Kathy. A gracious lady and a kind spirit. Be at peace Carolyn. May the Lord greet you with open arms!!!!
I remember the Christmas parties when we were kids. Each year at a different uncle’s house. As we grew older we only met at weddings and funerals. I last saw Carol at cousin Carla’s funeral.
I liked that she rescued Greyhounds from the track.
So many wonderful memories going back to being the ring bearer at her wedding. My dear cousin. The matriarch of our family, she led with love and lived with grace, even through the most difficult times. Always a smile, a laugh, a story to tell, but never a complaint. Carol’s love and caring for her parents, siblings, children and others was always evident, and genuine. Never judgmental, only grateful. She is loved and will be missed. XO
