Jeanette “Sparky” Popov (age 77)
neé Sanders, May 17, 2025
Jeanette Popov, beloved mother, daughter, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family on May 17th, 2025, at the age of 77. She was born on June 20th, 1947, in Detroit and spent her life devoted to the people she loved most—her children.
To all who knew her, Sparky was a gentle force, steadfast in strength, generous in compassion, and constant in love. Her greatest joy in life was being a mother. She was always there for her children, offering guidance, comfort, and unconditional love through every stage of life. She had a remarkable way of bringing the family together, creating a home filled with warmth, laughter, and a deep sense of belonging. Her steady presence was the heart of the family, and her love was the bond that held them all close.
She was a fiercely devoted mother who always put her family first supportive in every challenge, protective in every moment, selfless in every act, and endlessly encouraging as she guided her children with love and care.
Jeanette, a longtime resident of Hamtramck, Michigan, was the beloved wife of Leonard “Lenny” Popov, for 52 years. Lenny preceded her in death, and their lasting bond was marked by a lifetime of shared memories and unwavering commitment.
She is survived by her loving children: Curt Popov, Melanie Johnson (Raymond), Tammy Loos (Dan), Celena Szymanski (Mike), Brandy Popov (Pete), and Jason Popov (Nicole). She was a proud grandmother to Justin Popov (Toy), Derrick Popov (Candace), Paige Loos (Roy), Ryan Loos, Sydney Szymanski, Sloane Popov, Audrina Frrokaj, Lennee Popov, Bryer Popov and Sophia Frrokaj; and a cherished great-grandmother to Roy, Kobe, Kaiden, Carter, and Bronn.
Jeanette was also a dear sister, survived by her siblings Loretta Gurak, Faith Hardesty, John Sanders and Bernadette Gallus and preceded in death by her sister, Madeline Rybak. Though she had six children of her own, she was a mother figure to many and opened her heart and home to all who needed her.
She created a life and home filled with laughter, encouragement, and unconditional love. Her legacy lives on in the values she instilled, the lessons she taught, and the fierce love she gave so freely.
