Maury Newlin (age 68)
November 23, 2023

Maurice (Maury) Allen Newlin passed away November 23, 2023 in his hometown of Pontiac Michigan. Maury was born to Robert and Mary (Tolly) Newlin on November 26, 1954 in Decatur Illinois.
Maury was a kind person with a very gentle heart and a true love for photography. His photography reflected this gentle nature. Maury’s portfolio included pictures of the things he loved from the waterfalls of Yosemite, San Francisco’s skyline and bridges, to Chicago’s towering sky scrapers and of course, family and friends.
In 1981 Maury earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Professional Photography from Brooks Institute, Santa Barbara, California. His “self portrait” assignment from Brooks entailed Maury in a grungy junkyard, relaxing in his swimsuit on a beach recliner, reading a book. The towel hanging from the beach recliner read “Paradise!” This was Maury’s sense of humor.
Other interests of Maury’s included helping people. He traveled to Africa twice, on a Church Mission, to help build structures and homes for the under privileged. In 2005-2006, Maury applied this passion and earned an Internship at Henry Ford Hospital, Detroit Michigan in the field of Clinical Social Work. He then went on to earn a Master’s Degree in Social Work from Wayne State University in Detroit Michigan. Maury then settled into a home in Pontiac Michigan and applied his degree by helping Veterans with Social work needs.
When Maury retired, he continued his love of photography by opening a portrait studio to service the local area.
His love for Classic Rock Music remained strong throughout his life. He saw, and photographed, several of rock’s classic bands in concert before these bands were considered classic.
Predeceased by his father Robert, Maury is survived by his mother Mary, his three brothers, and his sister. His dog Frankie was his best friend and will miss him dearly.
Maury’s kindness and wit will be profoundly missed, however, he left behind part of his soul through his photography, which will be reflected upon for years to come.
